One of the many new features in our email marketing software solution Maxemail is Inbox Preview. Inbox Preview enables you to view what your email will look like in major email clients such as Hotmail, AOL & Yahoo to see if there are any rendering issues.

Unlike other preview or “Inbox Snapshot” services our email marketing software has a number of advantages including:

  • Instant preview – there is no need to send to a seed list to get results as a preview is displayed instantly in your browser. If you have to make changes you don’t have to wait 15-20 minutes to preview it again.

  • Not just a JPEG preview – Inbox Snapshot services provide just a JPEG which means for some email clients anything where the email is longer than the page height may not be displayed

  • No cost per test – other services charge for each time you send a test, even if it is just to one email client. Therefore costs can escalate to a point where the testing costs are more than the broadcast costs. Maxemail Inbox Preview is free to all of our email marketing software users.

  • Integrated access – other tools often push you out to an external system, sometimes requiring a separate login while the Inbox Preview in our email marketing solution is fully integrated into our approval process.

The Inbox Preview feature is backed with best practice advice from our knowledgebase in relation to ensuring our emails are rendered correctly in the respective email client.

Here is some advice from the knowledgebase for tackling Hotmail rendering issues:

  • CSS and anything held in the <HEAD> tags is stripped out. Move your CSS outside of the <HEAD> tags to ensure it is used to format your email. However you may find your CSS will alter the look and feel of the Hotmail page.

  • Have you ever seen your email turn up blank in Hotmail? Generally this is because there is no closing </HEAD> tag.

  • If your fonts and links are being displayed incorrectly this is because the styles for the Hotmail page is overruling your code. To avoid this put old fashioned <FONT> tags around affected text and links.

  • The <BODY> tag of your email gets converted to a <DIV> that means any globally defined colours (I.E. Text=#000000) are not understood by the viewers browser and therefore your email is not rendered as you wished.

The Inbox Preview solution also helps you understands how effective your creative is. For example, are your main messages ‘above the fold’ or do users have to scroll?
