At the start of the year we released our 2017 Guide to help you plan your email marketing campaigns. Here’s a reminder of the opportunities coming up for Q2 with a handy infographic presenting the key dates.
Officially the first day of Spring falls on 20th March and the season kick starts a series of exciting events that you can celebrate with your customers. Start your email campaigns early to build interest and get ahead of the competition.
April Fools Day – 1st April
This is your opportunity to get super creative and show your sense of humour, but keep the customer in mind and make it very clear that your message is a hoax!
School Holiday – 3rd to 18th April
Children will break from school for two weeks over the Easter period and parents will be looking for ideas on how to entertain them. Also, young adults attending University will be taking a break from their studies around this time too.
Grand National – 8th April
Create excitement by putting your own spin on the event. Try a themed email with a special promotion or competition asking your customers to vote on the winning horse.
Have you planned and built your Easter email campaign? If not, why? There will be lots of people wanting to take advantage of this time away from their studies and work life. This means filling time with fun activities, travelling and generally eating way too much!
Good Friday – 14th April
Easter Sunday – 16th April
Easter Monday – 17th April
Build excitement leading up to the long bank holiday weekend and remind customers of your offering by scheduling a series of emails, like Hotel Chocolat have done below. Use themed email designs and try tying in traditional games, such as an Easter egg hunt.
Queen Elizabeth’s 91st Birthday – 21st April
Her Majesty has ruled for longer than any other monarch, so celebrate her birthday in style and reward your most loyal customers with an extra special offer.
St. George’s Day – 23rd April
Join thousands of people celebrating this momentous day – it’s a fantastic opportunity for those in the food and drink industry to run themed events!
Early May Bank Holiday – 1st May
Celebrate Spring and give your customers something to enjoy over the bank holiday, like an exclusive deal or time-sensitive offer. Great if you want to sell through on last season’s stock.
Spring Bank Holiday – 29th May
How did your previous bank holiday email and offer perform? This is your second opportunity to run another bank holiday campaign to maximise sales.
School Summer Half Term – 29th May to 2nd June
The kids break from school again, but this time for only one week. It’s the perfect time for a family break and to plan activities to keep them entertained.
Father’s Day – 18th June
Help your customers find the perfect gift by pushing relevant products and deals leading up to the event, and don’t forget about those who look forward to just putting their feet up.
Royal Ascot – 20th to 24th June
Lots of ladies and gentlemen will be attending this popular horse racing event, so it’s a great opportunity for fashion retailers, travel providers and other local businesses.
It’s important that you plan and schedule in your campaigns, but don’t forget it’s also important to be reactive to things going on around you. In early Spring, we can experience heavy rain one day and bright skies the next. The weather can be unpredictable, so your customers may be happy to receive an unplanned email on a nice day containing restaurant offers or day trip ideas.
